Michelangelo's Pieta

pieta

Michelangelo's Pieta is one of the most exquisite and beautiful pieces of art.

It depicts Mother Mary nursing her crucified son, Jesus Christ.

Michelangelo certainly hoped this work would make him famous. He gave it tremendous detail and polished it like no other statue.

It is perhaps the pinnacle of the High renaissance. Both figures are beautiful and appear to be the same age. There is suffering but also nobility. It also has a very personal aspect. The anguish of a devoted mother for her son.
