Interesting choice but I would add Anna Sewell whose book Black Beauty changed the way that her generation looked at horses.

You forgot BOB MARLEY, with his music he began a movement to change the political situation in Jamaica at the time as well as in AFRICA. He also revolutionized if not invented the music we call Reggae today.

What about Nikola Tesla?
He's completely forgotten on this subject...

Lester Pearson. Won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1957 for organizing the United Nations Emergency Force to resolve the Suez Canal Crisis. The selection committee claimed that Pearson had "saved the world." The United Nations Emergency Force was Pearson's creation, and he is considered the father of the modern concept of peacekeeping.

Totally agreed with the Nikola Tesla suggestion.

His contributions to humanity? Let's take a quick look at the following list of technologies:

- Alternate Current Electricity (AC current)
- Wireless transmission of energy (WiFi)
- Fluorescent Lighting & neon lights.
- Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft
- Terrestrial Stationary Waves
- Thermo-Electric Power
- X-Ray machine
- Radar
- Computing Logic Circuits/Remote Control/Communications
- Solar Tower

Here are some sources with well documented references:

For a man who has invented (or contributed to the discovery or the invention, to say the least) the aforementioned technologies, it's hard to imagine what kind of world we'll be living in today.

Considering the fact that it's A/C electricity that's powering my iMac (and very possibly the computer that was used for the creation of this website), and that my computer is connected to the internet via WiFi connection, not already included in the list of Inspiring People. Had he NOT contributed enough to make this world a better place? One could only wonder.

A serious omission, Nikola Tesla

Ludwig von Mises was the greatest economist of the 20th century, not Keynes with all his unworkable theories.

Many you list are mere pop culture figures or entertainers, not people who made an important difference.

Most of all you missed L. Ron Hubbard - author, philosopher, photograher, mariner and explorer, who made major breakthrough discoveries in the science of the mind and spirit, education, criminal and drug rehabilitation, the arts, ethics and fundamentals of human organizations. He has unlocked the ultimate potential of the human spirit with a practical technology that has radically improved the lives of tens of thousands worldwide and increases daily.

President Ronald Reagan-one of the most important and influential figures in the history of Western Civilization-much less the United States of America. Played a pivotal role in ending the Soviet Union's 70-year reign of tyranny, thereby freeing millions of East Europeans from the bondage and cruelty of Communism, and ending the plague of Soviet-sponsored civil wars and insurgencies in Africa and Latin America.

I know you listed John Lennon but the positive impact of the Beatles (as a group and as individuals) can't be over stated. Their talent and creative output road a wave that they themselves were instrumental in creating but also reflected basic human desires across the globe. I suspect that in 100 years or even 500, they and their music will be remembered and admired for their positive impact/message.

I suggest Leader Olumba Olumba Obu, The spiritual Head of Brotherhood of the Cross of Star; a spiritual religious organization established in the 1940s in a remote city of Calabar in Nigeria, West Africa. The first black man to open a spiritual organization embraced by many all over the world; both black and white. The population of the organization is over 10 million members (unofficial figure)across the world. He does not have formal education but he teaches and educates many people both educated and uneducated alike.
He heals the sicks free without charging a dim, with a spoken words; he calls his organization "school of practical Christianity", provides shelter to many, cloths, feeds and heal them. He teaches love, peace, faith, hope and forgiveness. His followers called Him "The Man-God".

Prophet Muhammad. Arabs had a long history of burying the girl-child, injustice, roughness, intolerance, lawlessness and ignorance prevailed. Muhammad united all the Arabs under one banner, preached justice and peace.
Michel H. Hart says "My choice of Muhammad to lead the list of the world's most influential persons may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others, but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular level." [The 100: A Ranking Of The Most Influential Persons In History, New York, 1978, p. 33]

John William Draper (1811-1882) American scientist, philosopher, and historian says about Muhammad, "Four years after the death of Justinian, A.D. 569, was born at Mecca, in Arabia the man who, of all men exercised the greatest influence upon the human race...Mohammed." [A History of the Intellectual Development of Europe, London, 1875, vol.1, pp. 329-330]

Alphonse de Lamartine (1790-1869) French poet and statesman says about Muhammad, "Philosopher, orator, apostle, legislator, warrior, conqueror of ideas, restorer of rational dogmas, of a cult without images; the founder of twenty terrestrial empires and of one spiritual empire, that is Muhammad. As regards all standards by which human greatness may be measured, we may well ask, is there any man greater than he?"[Translated from Histoire De La Turquie, Paris, 1854, vol. II, pp. 276-277]

Renaissance is credited to Granada of Islamic Spain, which happened only due to Muhammad.

I would like to nominate Tan Le, a Vietnamese immigrant. She is most recognised as a telecommunications entrepreneur. She is the co-founder of emotiv and the founder and CEO of emotiv life sciences. She has invented a headset that reads your brainwaves, allowing you to control any digital device once you program the headset to read your brainwaves. This machine helps many people who have lost limbs, are paraplegics or quadriplegics, etc. every day! With a bit more publicity, this invention could change the world as we know it, not just for the disabled, but for those who just want to control things with their minds. It could make the lives of everyone much easier. This thing is better than voice control!

I do respect the top 100 people on that list but was Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) not worthy of being one of the top ten? That top 100 list makes no sense to me because the only man behind all the blessings we have on this earth today is him. Do you know who was Mahatma Gandhi's role model?
his role model was Muhammad(PBUH). Yes he did'nt know how to read and write but he spread the message of God. Angel gabriel whispered the God's words to him and he spread them and brought light to a dark, extremely evil and corrupted world . The only person who deserves the highest respect is him and no one else!

This list is so short sited. Why in the world would you add people like JFK, or Oprah Winfrey. In 200 years, who will be remembered? Certainly Mozart, Einstein, and many of the greats listed. I think this is a combination of very famous people because of their contribution to humanity, and a political list. It's clear that you don't include people like the great Billy Graham, "the protestant pope." This is a very liberal list, excluding people like Anne Frank, Ghandi and so many other greats. Why did you make this political. It is obvious on its face. So sad.
